Hehe. I’ve never heard about OpenBPM, but if they use Operaton as the process engine, I’d say they disqualify themselves as a serious partner. With all the due respect to Operaton and all the things you’ve done so far, but it’s still in its initial stage and is not ā€œbattle provenā€. To offer it to anyone and telling to base the business on it is… adventurous, I’d say.

Hello @fml2,

The OpenBPM product works with multiple BPM engines. As you may know Camunda 7 CE enters EOL in October and weā€˜re the only fork doing an extensive beta testing (actually for a full year). So itā€˜s actually difficult for me to follow your logic. What is your proposal here? Using the unmaintained EOL engine or using a fork that did less testing?

Cheers,

Julian

@fml2 Could you elaborate more on your logic? I’m confused, too. Maybe have a look at OpenBPM first to see what it actually is and what not.
IMO is a very welcome addition to the BPM ecosystem. For Operaton it is complementary to the engine, and to some degree conflicting with the upcoming new own webapps. I do not see a problem here, actually more a welcome alternative. Let the user decide which UI and dependency fits best their needs. They have a choice for Operaton which they do not have for others. It is welcome to have such additions.
And I doubt that other forks are more battle proven than ours. Yes, they claim to have already multiple final versions. But look at the actual commits what they are doing. Not much I have to say. Much marketing bla-bla. And we admit, on that side they are doing a better job so far.

Hello guys,

It just happens that I’ve seen several projects of type ā€œOpenAbcā€ that tried to build something around and upon some well known and established products, but, in the end, did not add much to the base products. It seems to me that this one is also of the type.

I very much respect what you do and I am quite sure that Operaton soon will be a very solid product. I just was a little bit ā€œupsetā€ by the fact that someone is about to ā€œhijackā€ your work.

OTOH: If that helps to spread the news about Operaton – why not?

Ok, now I understand hopefully better.

I think OpenBPM is not just someone. The product they are building is adding great value IMO.

I also not consider being hijacked. We spoke with the team several times to find out from both sides if we match together. They were actually thinking about creating and maintaining their own fork. We came luckily to the consense that Operaton is the better option. We care for the engine, they care for their product. More than that, they will soon start providing manpower to develop on Operaton. They have been helping us already with SEO topics on the website.

Their product is overlapping with the web UIs were are currently rebuilding. This is known. We still think that Operaton has to ship their own web apps. So we continue on that work. However, their apps are more advanced and will have different focus. That is perfectly fine.

We consider us to concentrate on the engine.

In the end I think this will be a beneficial collaboration for both sides and helps Operaton get the desired attraction and stability. They have also a high interest in that nothing breaks for them, so do we.
