At the moment we are facing a choice of which BPMN system to use in our project. We considered Camunda 8, but due to their crazy pricing policy we decided to abandon that idea.
Operaton looks very appealing, but I would like to ask how safe it is to deploy this system in production. As I understand it, there is still no released version of Operaton, and it is planned for October 2025. We are currently looking at both Flowable and Operaton. Flowable is partially free, while Operaton is fully open source and free and all-in-one solution.
Could you please advise whether it is safe to bet on Operaton and move forward with this solution? I would be grateful for your recommendations and advice.
there are several users (including my own company) running Operaton in production.
You can start your project with Beta-5 now (which uses C7 7.23 Database Schema) and update to 1.0.0 which will be released in November.
The database schema will then be updated to a C7 7.24 compatible one.
In October we will release one or more releases candidates, after C7 CE entered the final EOL state. But these are mostly relevant if you have an issue with very specific bugs, which are not relevant for the most users (for example deploying legacy CMMN models from the Camunda namespace, which was fixed recently).
After the 1.0 Release we will take care that users are able to migrate their data to newer versions in the future.
