Planning the Operaton Release Party

Dear Operaton community!

The C7 EoL is, as most know, on October 14th. This means that our 1.0 release is approaching. We should celebrate that :tada:

And then it would be time for a release party. Questions:

  • When?
  • Where?
  • What?

I would like to give proposals, but your ideas are welcome. Let’s decide soon together.

WHEN
Roughly we have an idea to release early/mid November. We need to finish the backporting. As of now, we are almost done and we do not expect much to come. After the final 7.24 release there will be a short time of testing/stabilization. And then we can release.

So mid of November sounds like a good time. I would propose a Friday. My proposals is Friday Nov 21st.

WHERE
Again, just a proposal. I can offer to have the release party at the (new) itemis headquarter in the harbor of Dortmund. We have enough space for all. It is quite central in Germany with good train connections to all Germany. Also, we have some community members from the Netherlands, this is not far from here. Our office is not far from the central station.

As said, just a proposal. It is not a neutral location, I know, and I don’t want to offend any community partner.

WHAT
We can decide how to organize the party when we decided on when & where. For the case we are doing this in our office I have the commitment that itemis would also sponsor the event.

Actually, I think we do not need any fancy things. Most of us will meet each other the first time in person, so we have enough to do with networking. Maybe small presentations in between. IMO we do not need fancy catering. Pizza, finger food, beer & other beverages, done.

What are your thoughts? When we collected some ideas I will make polls to decide.

PARTY TIME!

The location & day is now fixed. As proposed, the Operaton Release will be celebrated on Nov 21st 2025 in Dortmund at the itemis Office (Lensing Media Port, Speicherstraße 8, Dortmund).

We will now work on a concrete agenda. Meet some awesome members of the Operaton team & community. Start spreading the word!

Here is a first agenda proposal for discussion. You are welcome to give your input.

12:00 - 13:00: Meet & Greet, Snacks
13:00 - 14:30: Opening, Talks
14:30 - 15:00 Pause
15:00 - 16:00 Community event (T.B.A.)
16:00 - 16:30 Pause
16:30 - 18:00 Talks
18:00 - 19:00 Networking, Pizza

Show us what you do with Operaton! If you want to do a presentation, submit a Talk Proposal here or send me via Slack PM.

  • Regular presentation: 25 min
  • Lightning talk: 10 min

Of course we understand that we have Operaton community members already all over the world and that not all can make the travel to Germany for this event. We are working on providing a possibility to join the event online. But you’ll miss the fun to meet most of the drivers behind the Operaton project in person.

If you are planning to come in person, please register via the LinkedIn event:

This friday we will internally kick off the event planning. Meanwhile the event is already shaping. We will have inspiring talks about Operaton development, its usage and ecosystem. Confirmed speakers include @javahippie , @Julian , @Noordsestern , @steven , @lavrenkov and me. Feel free to contact me if you want to give a short presentation.

I am planning also an open discussion (panel, fishbowl or similar) about the future of Operaton, based on the discussion in thread “Operaton 2.0”.

For those who are arriving the day before or stay until saturday, we will see if we can organize something.

Although the event officially starts at 12, there will be possibility to come early in the office and work or just meet others and me. I will be there from early morning.
